LPPC DSL BW 1242
It’s June 1972 at Crewe Diesel Depot. Class 40 310 (later 40110) heads a line of locos with 3 Class 47s behind (possibly 1511 and 1678) at Crewe Diesel Depot. Class 47 1697 and Class 50 D430 sit awaiting their next duties at the fueelling point. It is remarkable just how many locomotives British Rail needed as late as the early 1970s to keep its services running. Was their disappearance an indication of increased efficiencies or the loss of a considerable amount of revenue-earning traffic in plain sight?
