In July 1973 (possibly 22nd July), two smart and clean
looking Sulzer Type 2 Class 25s strike out from Leicester northwards with train 1E91, the 07.58 Walsall to Great Yarmouth, a popular holiday destination at the time. Compare this to today’s totally inadequate summer service of Class 158s and 170s. NOTE. There is no comparative train these days, Birmingham to Ely, change to Norwich, change to Great Yarmouth!! This train would be routed via Melton Mowbray which, even at this point in the early ‘70s, was a rationalised route compared to the original meander for these trains from Birmingham New Street up the WCML to Rugby then across country on the closed in the late 1960s line direct to Peterborough via Oundle. Keywords: Digital, Rights Managed, Stock
