BR TYPE 4 CLASS 42 WARSHIPS
The Class Type 4 “Warship” diesel-hydraulic locomotives were introduced in 1958. The Western Region of British Railways used a scaled down version of German Federal Railway's "V200" design suiting the smaller loading gauge of the British Railways network. They were divided into two batches with those being built at Swindon numbered D800 to D832 and D866 to D870. They had a tractive effort of 52,400 pounds-force and eventually became Class 42. The other 33 of the class, numbers D833 to 865, were constructed by the North British Locomotive Company and became Class 43. Two Class 42s are preserved, D821 and D832.
